"The film captures, in cinéma verité style, a typical day in a modern community hospital. The hospital story begins with the birth of a baby. At the same time, in another corner building, trustees discuss preliminary budget estimates. In the emergency ward the tempo changes from moment to moment, from a heart attack to a sprain. A minor operation is followed through to discharge. Beyond the patients room, the laundry, boiler room, central supply and other departments are as important as the scalpel. The narration throughout is provided by the hospital staff. Their voices relay the problems, challenges and excitement of hospital careers."
