"The family has gotten too small and isolated to make living together emotionally comfortable. As 20th century western society became industrialized, the family grew more inward and isolated, to the point where people, discouraged with their impersonal world, began to look to it to satisfy all their needs in life. In addition, there has been such a rapid technological change that parents no longer really know what it's like to be a child in the present. Living communally, shaping our neighbourhoods differently, and living with extended families are some ways of putting the family back in its proper perspective."
