"This film presents a wide range of children with learning problems. It shows new approaches to dealing with the 'slow learners' who make up from 15 to 40 percent of the population of all classrooms. Previously thought to be intellectually inadequate, mentally retarded or emotionally disturbed, such children are now shown instead to have definite and understandable problems in relation to how they take in and process educational information presented to them; problems which, with the proper approach and early detection, can be overcome. The program looks at some children who cannot write, read, remember, organize information or handle abstract ideas, yet are all bright. The film was made at the Learning Clinic of the Montreal Children's Hospital with Dr. M. Sam Rabinovitch, Professor of Psychology and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, McGill University. Rabinovitch begins his treatment of a child by finding out what the child can do. One child may learn best by handling things and another child may learn best by listening rather than seeing. Some children may have difficulties with muscular coordination."
