"Commissioned by the C.B.C., this film was refused airing because of its obscene language and occasionally violent scenes. Canadian director Allan King's feature-length documentary deals more with the film maker's commitment to broadening the audience's responses to emotionally disturbed children than with the simple portrayal of a situation. Filmed as a portrait of a north Toronto psychiatric treatment centre, its striking absence of narration allows the audience to concentrate on the actions and words of the children themselves."
