"This film deals with the proper behaviour and selling manner of clerks who work behind the counter of a department store. The story uses three clerks to illustrate both good and bad examples of sales technique. Two of the women ignore customers, gossip, come to work tired and are short-tempered and rude with customers. The third, Fran, is always polite, knows her merchandise, is helpful and doesn't push too much. She received a promotion. In the final third of the film, earlier scenes are re-played, with customers offering their opinions of the clerks in voice-over."
