"Film about the creation by painter R. York Wilson of the mural in the lobby of Imperial Oil's head office. The mural represents the history of oil and describes oil's importance in the modern world. The film explains how the artist studied the oil industry and experimented with pigments while creating the mural."

"An account of the production of the giant mural in the foyer of Imperial Oil's new headquarters building in Toronto, by Toronto artist R. York Wilson. Largest mural of its kind in Canada, it depicts the story of oil in semi-abstract design. Step by step the film documents the artist's three-and-a-half year task in planning, sketching and finally transferring his work to the walls of the lobby. The completed work provides an impressive and pleasing highlight to the interior décor of the building."

"When the development of a mural - one of man's oldest art forms, is depicted in a color motion picture - one of his newest art forms, the result can be both exciting and informative.
In this instance, the product of this rare combination is a colour-and-sound movie entitled 'Mural'. It depicts, from conception to finished work of art, the creation of the giant mural which dominates the entrance foyer of Imperial Oil's executive office building in Toronto. One art critic has described it as 'not only the largest mural in Canada' (it consists of two parts, each 32 by 21 feet) 'but also the most impressive in creative content.'
'Mural' opens with the preliminary sketching which the artist, R. York Wilson, did in his own studio, then moves on to a pictorial report on the actual work of transferring the mural from sketch to bare wall. Finally, it supplies a vivid explanation of the mural's theme : the story of oil and energy, from the fossil pits of pre-history to the jet propulsion era of today.
It has been said that for centuries man has used the mural as a creative signature to his architecture. 'Mural', then, is a film intended to offer the artistic experience of one particular mural to thousands who may never set eyes on the work of art itself."
